Privacy Policy Heart Farming

Last updated May 3, 2026.

Heart Farming is developed by Therese Kristoffer Publishing. We take the privacy and security of our users seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how it is used. By using Heart Farming, you agree to this policy.

User data and data collection
Heart Farming is developed as part of a research study, the Heart-exergame study at Linköping University, for which Therese Kristoffer Publishing AB is a development partner. As such, the app collects data for users participating in the study for research purposes and that also provide consent as part of the study. If you are not part of the study, your research data is not saved.

Data is transmitted securely to a server over HTTPS using an automatically generated random postal number that identifies the current game instance (not the user or their device). Study participants are asked to disclose their Heart Farming postal number, which is then linked to a Study ID. The connection between a Study ID and an individual is stored separately from the app's systems by the researchers. Data sent to the server is only retained for participants who have an associated Study ID. This also means that if a study participant receives a new random postal number — for example, after changing phones or performing a full reinstall — they will need to re-link this number to their Study ID through the clinic managing their participation.

Data is stored on secure servers for the duration of the study and subsequently archived on secure servers at Linköping University for future analysis. For study participants who have provided consent, this data is retained indefinitely. If you are a study participant and wish to have your data removed, please contact your clinical coordinator from the Heart-exergame study. For other users, research data is not saved.

Sharing and communication
The app allows players to share in-game content — such as carrots, emoji reactions, and game settings — via the in-game postal service. This means players can send items to one another, but only if they choose to share their postal number. The postal numbers of the most active players are displayed in the app on a daily basis, making it possible for any player to send content to those numbers.

Analytics
To help us improve Heart Farming, we may collect usage statistics such as the number of active users, how often the app is used, and general in-app behaviour. This may include daily physical activity measured in meters, but this data is never associated with a location. All analytics data is transmitted securely over HTTPS and collected anonymously. We do not collect information about individual devices, though we may collect general information about device type, operating system, and technical capabilities in order to improve compatibility. Analytics data is stored for 14 months.

Crash logs
We make every effort to identify and resolve software issues before releasing new versions of the app. However, in the event of an unexpected crash, the app may send a crash log to help us diagnose and fix the problem. Heart Farming may use third-party services such as Google Crashlytics for this purpose. We only use services that are secure and fully compliant with GDPR. Crash log data is stored for 30 days.

Children's privacy
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must read and accept this Privacy Policy on your behalf.

Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes are effective immediately on publishing and you are advised to review this page periodically.
